A lake behind Abha Dam on the western edge of the city. The dam was built in 1974 to hold back rain and flood water in Wadi Abha and supply drinking water to the city and the valley's people, and it has since become one of Abha's main sights. The concrete dam is 350 metres long and 33 metres high and stores about 2.13 million cubic metres of water at 2,200 metres above sea level; at night its face is lit blue, reflected in the water. The shores have gardens, lawns and family seating areas, sometimes with pleasure boats, and from here the Green Mountain can be seen glowing at night. The visit is free; late afternoons and summer evenings are the best times. The water level rises after the rains and drops in dry years.
