Ada Bojana is an island in Ulcinj Municipality in southern Montenegro, formed by the delta of the Bojana river at the country's southernmost tip, about 14 km southeast of Ulcinj in a straight line. Its name means «river island» in the local language, and the river separates it from Albanian territory. The island is triangular, bordered on two sides by the Bojana river and on the southwest by the Adriatic, with an area of 4.8 square kilometres and a subtropical climate despite its Mediterranean location. It has a 3-kilometre sandy beach and lives mainly from camping and tourism. In 2010 The New York Times named it among its top places to go. The long soft sandy beach faces a shallow blue sea, while wooden houses and fish restaurants stand on stilts over the water along the riverbank, hung with traditional fishing nets. Woods and reeds cover the island, and cows roam freely. Visitors swim and relax on the beach, eat fresh fish in the wooden restaurants on the river and stroll along its banks. Summer is peak season, and visitors drive in over a small bridge across the river.
