A river island on the Sava in the heart of Belgrade, artificially turned into a peninsula around the man-made Lake Sava. It has become the capital's favourite recreation area, nicknamed Belgrade's Sea. The lake shores have long beaches, sports grounds, paths for walking and cycling, shady woods and cafes on the water, and on summer days more than 100,000 people come here daily. There is plenty to do: rowing and gentle water sports, volleyball and tennis courts, and rope parks, while a loop path round the lake is good for walking and running all year. Entry is free. It gets crowded on summer weekends, so come on a weekday morning or in autumn when the trees turn colour. The loveliest moment is sunset over the still lake.
And its beaches.
For walks and runs.
In full colour.
