The main mosque of Manado's Muslims, at the heart of the city and one of North Sulawesi's largest, with a great dome and a minaret rising among the central commercial buildings. Manado is a largely Christian city, but it has a large, long-established Muslim community, and the mosque is the centre of its religious life. The prayer hall is broad and fills on Fridays and in Ramadan, and around the mosque are halal restaurants and shops, making the area one of the easiest places in town to find reliable halal food. Central sights and the city market are close by. Entry is free. Non-Muslims visit outside prayer times in modest dress. It is the handiest mosque for Friday prayer in Manado, and a good spot for a halal lunch afterwards in the surrounding restaurants.
