Bohol's best-known beach, a strip of soft white sand less than a kilometre long at the south-western tip of Panglao Island, between two low rocky cliffs, facing clear water with coral reefs close to shore. Along the sand are hotels, restaurants, cafés and dive centres, so the place is lively, and it is where most visitors to Bohol stay. Early-morning boats leave from here to watch dolphins near Pamilacan Island, and snorkelling and dive trips go to Balicasag Island, known for its coral walls and turtles. The reef in front of the beach is protected and easy to snorkel, with colourful fish a few metres from the sand. Evenings belong to the beachfront restaurants, including seafood places that grill fresh fish in front of you. At low tide the water recedes a long way and swimming gets difficult, so ask about the tides. The beach is busy in season; for quiet, Panglao has other beaches such as Dumaluan.
