Alta Gracia was one of the estancias the Jesuits set up in Córdoba province to fund their university and schools, and the small city of Alta Gracia grew around it. Its 17th-century residence is now the National Museum of the Jesuit Estancia and House of Viceroy Liniers, part of the World Heritage Site UNESCO listed in 2000. The museum is set around an arcaded courtyard, its rooms showing estancia life, from the kitchen and storerooms to furniture and tools, and the story of Santiago de Liniers, the former viceroy of the Río de la Plata whose home it became. In front stands an old reservoir the Jesuits built to irrigate the land, now ringed by a public park. Entry is free, with free guided tours every day and no booking needed. The museum opens Tuesday to Friday 09:00-13:00 and 15:00-19:00, and Saturday and Sunday 10:00-13:00 and 14:00-18:00. Alta Gracia makes a half-day trip from Córdoba by bus or car.
