Amantikir is a private botanical park in Campos do Jordão, about 180 kilometres from São Paulo, designed by the landscape architect Walter Vasconcellos, with 26 gardens inspired by gardening styles from countries such as Spain, France, England, Scotland and Japan, and more than 700 plant species over 60,000 square metres. Its name comes from the Indigenous word amantikir, the mountain that weeps, from which the name of the Mantiqueira range also derives. It has a grass maze and lookouts over the mountains, and it has been the town's top attraction for years. A visit is a gentle walk through the gardens of an hour or two, loveliest in spring and autumn when the flowers bloom. Parking costs extra.
