A calm, sheltered bay north-west of Ao Nang, ringed by towering forested limestone cliffs and threaded with narrow channels through mangrove forest, one of southern Thailand's finest places to kayak. The water is lake-calm most days, suiting beginners and families. Visitors paddle with a guide between the high cliffs and into mangrove channels where tangled roots arch over the water, past small caves and narrow passages between rocks, perhaps seeing monkeys, birds and mangrove crabs. Muslim fishermen live in the small village by the bay, and trips leave from its pier. Trips are sold by length, two hours or half a day, including boat, guide and life jacket, and are timed by the tides, so ask when booking. The sun is strong on the water, so bring a hat, sunscreen, water and a dry bag for your phone. The calm season from November to April suits it best. It is about thirty to forty minutes by car from Ao Nang, and many trips include hotel transfers.
