With children on a rainy day: yes — two enjoyable, educational indoor hours, and the scarcity of indoor options in Lausanne raises its value. For a lone adult or a couple without children: relatively expensive next to what other cities offer, and the Olympic Museum or the Art Brut deserve the money more. Family tickets and advance booking bring the cost down.

Aquatis is **Europe's largest freshwater aquarium**, opened in 2017 north of Lausanne in a striking building clad in coloured metal discs resembling fish scales. Its specialism is unusual: no sea fish and no dolphins, but **the world's rivers and freshwater lakes** — environments more threatened and far less often displayed. The route takes you across five continents through some twenty large tanks: the Swiss Rhône and its glacial water, the Amazon with its predatory fish, the great lakes of Africa, and the rivers of Asia and Australia — with crocodiles, turtles, brightly coloured poison frogs and live reptiles, and explanations of freshwater pollution and decline. It is clearly designed for families (about two hours, entirely indoors, ideal in rain or cold), with a hotel and large car park beside it. Overpriced for a single adult, but among Lausanne's best options with children.
