Arena do Grêmio is the home of Grêmio, Internacional's arch-rivals, opened on 8 December 2012 to replace the old Olímpico Monumental, with an official capacity of about 55,000. It stands in the Humaitá district about a mile from the international airport, in a complex with a conference centre, hotel and shopping mall; it was designed by the firm PLARQ and was the first Brazilian stadium to receive UEFA's top rating. It was not a 2014 World Cup venue but hosted five matches at the 2019 Copa América. In May 2024 the Porto Alegre floods swamped the district and the stadium, and the team played away from home for months before returning. A guided tour of a little over an hour takes up to sixty people per slot and is booked online; times change by month and tours are cancelled on match and training days. The stadium also holds the club museum, the Memorial Hermínio Bittencourt, usually open Wednesday to Sunday.
