Arena Pernambuco, officially the Governador Carlos Wilson Campos stadium, is a multi-use stadium of about 45,000 seats in São Lourenço da Mata, in the western suburbs of greater Recife. It was built for the 2014 World Cup and hosted several of its matches, as part of a wider plan for a new district around it with a university campus, an indoor arena, a hotel and a convention centre. It stands out for its one-megawatt solar plant, built with an investment of about US$13 million as part of a research programme on solar power in Brazil, which feeds the grid when the stadium isn't full. Náutico played its home games here for years after a partnership deal in 2012. The stadium is a long way from central Recife, so it is visited on match days and for big concerts more than at any other time, ticketed by programme. Anyone passing can see it from outside for free.
