A private nature park in old-growth rainforest at the foot of Arenal volcano, where a loop trail of about three kilometres crosses more than fifteen bridges, including long hanging bridges strung between treetops over the gorges, so you walk at canopy level, where most of the forest's life lives. From the bridges you see giant trees draped in hanging plants and bromeliads, colourful birds such as toucans and tanagers, and sometimes monkeys and sloths in the branches. Midway is a small waterfall, and lookouts frame the volcano's summit between the trees. Guided tours are well worth it, as guides carry spotting scopes and know where animals hide; some run dawn birding walks or night tours to see frogs and insects. The bridges are sturdy and safe despite the height, and the trail is well kept. Rain is heavy most of the year in the rainforest, so bring a waterproof jacket and shoes.
