A narrow gorge cut by a seasonal stream through limestone at the start of the Akamas peninsula, north of Paphos, and one of the finest walks in Cyprus. The path begins wide among trees and shrubs, then the rock walls close in until they almost meet overhead, and you walk along the bed of the gorge between boulders and shallow water. The official trail is about 1.2 km one way, per visitor guides, and the round trip takes an hour and a half to two hours. The first part is easy; it gets harder with stream crossings and slippery rocks. Entry is free. Wear walking shoes with good grip, carry water and avoid it after heavy rain, when the stream rises. Spring to autumn is the best season.
