A mountaintop resort on Nui Chua, 25 to 30 km west of Da Nang, whose summit stands nearly 1,500 metres above the sea. The French found the site in 1901 while looking for a cool retreat like Da Lat and built villas here from 1919; abandoned after 1945 and damaged in the wars, it was rebuilt from the late 1990s and has been run by Sun Group since 2007 as Sun World Ba Na Hills. The ride up is part of the experience. The cable cars climb over the forest for several kilometres, and the line opened in 2013 set a record as the longest non-stop single-track cable car, at 5,801 metres. At the top are the Golden Bridge (its own page), flower gardens, a replica French village with a square, a church and a cobbled street, and Fantasy Park, a large indoor amusement park for children and teenagers. The air is cool all year, rarely above 25 degrees, and clouds roll in fast, so bring a jacket. Families usually spend most of a day here; arrive at opening to get ahead of the queues for the cable cars and the bridge. There are several restaurants and a buffet on site, but check the halal options before booking a meal package.
