Back Beach, Bai Sau or Thuy Van beach, is Vung Tau's main swimming beach and its longest, running about eight kilometres along the east side of the peninsula from the foot of Small Mountain to Cua Lap. Thuy Van Street follows it, lined with hotels, seafood restaurants and cafés. The sand is light and wide, the waves moderate for most of the year and the temperature steady all year round, which makes it where people from Ho Chi Minh City come to swim at weekends. It gets quieter the further you go from the northern end near town. Vung Tau is about 95 kilometres from central Ho Chi Minh City, of which it has been part since 2025, so it works as a day trip or a short break. The beach is very crowded at weekends and on holidays, so go on a weekday, and swim near the lifeguard posts.

Back Beach (Bai Sau) is the main swimming beach, with moderate waves and wide sand; Front Beach is more for strolling and sunsets than swimming.
