A green range on Guangzhou's northern edge whose name means «White Clouds», as its peaks are wrapped in mist in late spring and after rain; locals call it the «city's lung» for its thick forests, and its more than thirty peaks spread over about 28 square kilometres, the highest being Moxing at 382 m. It has been a favourite outing since ancient times, praised by poets of the Jin and Tang eras, and since the Song its views have featured in the lists of the «Eight Sights of Ram City», Guangzhou's loveliest spots. Paved roads and forest trails climb to the viewpoints and a cable car shortens the ascent; from the heights the city's towers stretch to the Pearl River, and the slopes hold flower and bird gardens and quiet cafés. Entry to the area is about CNY 5, and the cable car about CNY 25 one way or 50 return, per visitor guides. Arrive in the morning on a clear day in comfortable shoes, and avoid busy weekends.
