A mountain resort on the northern slope of the Trialeti range at about 1,700 metres, in a basin ringed by spruce forest, some thirty kilometres from Borjomi. It is one of Georgia's oldest ski resorts, its first ski base opening in 1932, and visitors come in both summer and winter. The ski area has two parts: Didveli, whose highest lift reaches about 2,700 metres, and Kokhta, with slopes up to about 2,270 metres, offering gentle runs for beginners and families, harder runs for experts, and artificial snow at Didveli. In 2023 the resort hosted the FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboarding World Championships. In summer its meadows and forests become a place for walking, horse riding and cycling, and there is an alpine botanical garden. One of the most charming ways to arrive is the old narrow-gauge train that climbs from Borjomi through forests and over bridges. Wandering the town is free, while lifts, equipment hire and lessons are priced by the resort and vary by season. The ski season usually runs from December to March; New Year and holiday weeks are busy, so book accommodation early.
