Bali's largest zoo and its best-known family destination, a large safari park opened in 2007 on the east coast, home to hundreds of animals from Indonesia, India and Africa in open areas mimicking their habitats, from Sumatran tigers and elephants to lions, giraffes and rhinos. Its highlights are the safari ride in an open bus among the animals, areas for feeding giraffes and elephants, a water playground, animal shows, and the huge Bali Agung stage show telling a Balinese legend with hundreds of performers and animals. Night safaris run on some days. Prices for foreigners are fairly high, with packages from around eight hundred thousand rupiah per person rising with extras; buying on the official website is often cheaper. The park offers transfers from some areas for a fee. Allow most of a day and start in the morning with the safari, when the animals are active. It is excellent for children, with varied restaurants including halal options.
