The Municipal Baths of Águas de Lindóia are the heart of a town that calls itself the «Thermal Capital of Brazil», on São Paulo state's Circuito das Águas. The area's waters were known by the eighteenth century, the physician Francisco Tozzi is credited with founding the spa, and the scientist Marie Curie was invited to visit its springs. Work on the present baths building began in 1954 and, by one account, it opened in 1959 with input from the landscape designer Roberto Burle Marx; mosaics by the artist Livio Abramo decorate the interior. Today the complex offers more than thirty services, including bathtubs, pools and thermal showers, and the «Fountain of Youth» emanatorium, as well as a municipal clinic run with the public health system. It suits a relaxing visit on a trip from Amparo; check opening times and prices before going.
