Ñandubaysal is one of Argentina's best-known river beaches, about eighteen kilometres from the city of Gualeguaychú, where the Uruguay river widens greatly as it meets the Gualeguaychú river. It stretches for about a kilometre and a half of soft white sand. It takes its name from the ñandubay, a native tree common in the surrounding woods, along with tall pines that give shade. The water is shallow and slopes gently, so you can wade a long way out before it gets deep, which suits families, and people kayak and play water sports there; it has restaurants, a tea house and a campsite. An entry fee is charged in the summer season, December to March, and it gets crowded in the January holidays.
