Barra do Jucu is a seaside district of Vila Velha, in Greater Vitória, Espírito Santo, where the Jucu river meets the ocean. It is a beach resort unlike the others, because its historic roots keep popular and folk traditions alive, including the local congo rhythm, with festivals and celebrations. It has become a surf spot for the quality of its waves near the river mouth, where river sediment builds up so the waves break well at a place called Coral de Cima. The Morro da Concha gives fine views of the surroundings and of a sunset that looks remarkable from the side opposite the dark waters of the Jucu river. It makes a quiet half day away from the busier city beaches.
