Shallow water.
Barra do Sahy is one of the beaches of São Sebastião on the north coast of São Paulo state, some 160 kilometres from the capital, and it still keeps the feel of a small village despite its development. The beach is small and horseshoe-shaped, with very calm water. The mouth of the Sahy River splits the beach in two with a small lagoon. On the left the river meets the sea in calm, shallow water that suits children, while on the right, known as the «Canto Bravo», the waves are stronger and a rocky headland encloses a little cove. In 2010 a Brazilian travel guide listed it among the ten best beaches for families with children. In February 2023 the area was hit by record rainfall, the heaviest ever measured in Brazil, and the neighbouring Vila Sahy suffered tragic landslides. Today visitors are back to enjoy the calm beach, keeping an eye on weather warnings in the rainy season.
