A mountain village on the slopes of Mount Sesean at about thirteen hundred metres north of Rantepao, overlooking one of Sulawesi's loveliest views: green rice terraces stepped down the valley's slopes, scattered tongkonan houses and Rantepao far off on the plain, with morning mist filling the valley. The road up from Rantepao is beautiful in itself, climbing between rice fields and villages, passing huge boulders carved with traditional graves and farms of the famous Toraja coffee. The village has simple guesthouses and cafes with panoramic views, and walking trails through the terraces. Visiting the village is free; the road is narrow and winding, so a car with a local driver is best. It is cooler than Rantepao. Come early in the morning for the mist, or stay a night for sunrise over the valley, and try Toraja coffee in one of the cafes.
