Beihai's best-known beach and one of China's most famous seaside resorts, stretching some 24 km along the southern shore of the Beihai peninsula, known for being «long and flat, with fine white sand, clean warm water and gentle waves». It was once the White Tiger Head beach, was developed as a resort from 1990 and opened in June 1991, and in 1992 became one of China's first national tourist resorts; visitors come to swim, walk on the sand and watch the sunrise over the sea. Entry is free through the main gate, per visitor guides. The summer sun is strong, so bring sun cream, and swim in the guarded areas.
