A museum of traditional Chinese architecture inside the Temple of Agriculture, or Xiannongtan, a 15th-century altar complex near the Temple of Heaven where Ming and Qing emperors made offerings to Xiannong, the mythical inventor of farming, and ploughed a ceremonial field each spring. Its halls explain how timber buildings, bracket sets, roof tiles and painted beams were made, with models of famous Chinese buildings. The Jufu Hall, and then the whole complex, were placed on the World Monuments Watch in 1998 and 2000, after which its buildings and painted decoration were restored; it is a protected national monument. Tickets cost CNY 15, with free entry for the first 200 visitors every Wednesday; it is open from 9 am to 5 pm, last entry 4.30 pm, closed on Mondays, and booking through its WeChat account is advised, per visitor guides.
