A theme park in Fengtai, south-west Beijing, opened in 1993 on 46.7 hectares about 17 km from Tiananmen, with scale models of famous buildings and landmarks from around the world set among lawns and gardens; it receives some 1.5 million visitors a year. The visit begins at a gate in the form of a Gothic castle and a Roman corridor, followed by an Italian-style terraced garden with grand staircases and fountains, and then the models spread along the paths, with a street of shops, restaurants and shows. Tickets cost CNY 100, about 90 booked online, and it is open from 9 am to 5 pm, while some rides and evening shows cost extra, per visitor guides.
