A cultural park in a valley covered with betel nut palms and rainforest, on the Baoting County border about 28 kilometres north of central Sanya inside the Ganshiling reserve, and the best place near Sanya to learn about the Li and Miao peoples of Hainan's mountains. Its villages show traditional life, including old Li houses thatched in the shape of upturned boats, and craft workshops where women spin, dye, weave and embroider cotton in the tradition UNESCO listed in 2009 as heritage in need of urgent safeguarding. It presents ten items of national intangible heritage, and you may meet elderly Li women bearing the traditional face and limb tattoos, a custom that has ended and of which only a few bearers remain, so ask before taking photos. Tickets are about CNY 96 from October to April and about CNY 80 from May to September, with opening from 8:30 to 18:00 and last entry at 17:30, per visitor guides. Shows and carts cost extra; allow a few hours.
