Beto Carrero World is the largest theme park in Latin America, in Penha on Santa Catarina's northern coast, about an hour from Balneário Camboriú. It was created by the Brazilian businessman and entertainer Beto Carrero, opened on 28 December 1991, and covers about 14 km² divided into seven themed areas. It mixes rides and roller coasters with big live shows such as the Hot Wheels Epic Show, Excalibur and the Madagascar Circus Show, and since a 2012 partnership with DreamWorks Animation and Universal its characters appear around the park. Visitors enter through the Castelo das Nações, which holds the ticket office, shops and lockers. Rides run from 10:00 to 20:00. The official one-day passport is R$199.90, or R$149.90 for Santa Catarina residents, with prices varying by date and demand, and buying ahead on the official site is usually cheaper. Check the operating calendar before you go, and allow a full day.
