A large, modern zoo in the coffee region, opened in the last decade across green hills west of Pereira, its name meaning «bear» in an Indigenous language, in honour of the Andean bear. Animals live in wide natural settings instead of cramped cages. Its best-known section is the «African savanna», an open plain where you see giraffes and zebras together, plus South American sections with Andean bears, jaguars, tapirs, capybaras and many birds, and a tropical forest area. You walk long trails among hills and lakes. The park offers educational programmes and children's activities and works in wildlife rescue. It is very large, so allow half a day or more, and bring a hat and water, as the afternoon sun is strong.

Very: it has African and South American animals in wide habitats and learning activities, but it is big, so plan half a day.
