A glacial lake on Mount Durmitor at 1,416 m, about three kilometres from the town of Žabljak at the foot of Međed peak, ringed by dense pine forest and the park's best-known lake. It is made of two lakes, Big and Little, joined by a narrow strait that dries up in summer and splits them; Big Lake reaches a depth of 24.5 m. An easy loop path circles it through the trees, with benches and viewpoints. Durmitor is a national park founded in 1952 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1980; its highest peak, Bobotov Kuk, reaches 2,523 m. You can rent a rowing boat on the lake. The park fee is EUR 5 a day and boat hire EUR 10 an hour, per Montenegro's national parks site. It's cool even in summer, and June to September is the best time.
