Blåvandshuk is a headland on the North Sea coast of Jutland, northwest of Esbjerg, and the westernmost point of mainland Denmark, about 25 km west of Esbjerg in a straight line. Blåvand Lighthouse is the westernmost building in Denmark. Much of the area is marsh, moor, dunes and beaches. The Skallingen peninsula stretches from it to the southeast, so it is surrounded by water: the North Sea to the northwest, and Fanø Bay and the island of Fanø to the southeast, with the Wadden Sea beyond. The tall, square white lighthouse stands on a high grassy dune, surrounded by golden and green dunes crossed by sandy paths and small pools, down to a wide sandy beach on the sea. From the top you see the dunes, coast and sea to the horizon. Visitors climb the lighthouse for wide views over the dunes and sea, and walk the long beach and the paths between the dunes. It is windy on the headland, and summer is the best season.
