A giant canyon some twenty-six kilometres long on the edge of the Drakensberg escarpment in Mpumalanga, counted among the largest canyons on Earth, and unlike most, a green canyon clothed in forest and subtropical plants rather than bare rock. Its most famous view is the Three Rondavels, three round rocky peaks with green caps that look like traditional African round houses with conical roofs, standing above the Blyde River and the blue dam lake on the canyon floor. The canyon is part of the Panorama Route, the scenic drive that starts in the town of Graskop and passes God's Window, Bourke's Luck Potholes and waterfall viewpoints, usually driven in a day before or after Kruger. The viewpoints charge small fees at their gates. Early morning, before the mist, is the best time, as are the clear days of the dry winter.
