The Borujerdi House is a historic house museum in Kashan, built in 1857 for a bride from the wealthy Tabatabaei family who married the merchant Borujerdi. It stands about 100 metres in a straight line from the Tabatabaei House. It was designed by the master builder Ali Maryam, who had built the nearby Tabatabaei House for the bride's family a few years earlier. It has both halves of a traditional Iranian home: the biruni for guests and the andaruni for the family. A courtyard with a long fountain pool and trees lies at its heart, overlooked by a two-storey iwan. A ribbed dome crowns the main hall, with two 40-metre windcatchers above it and a third over the entrance. Stucco, glass and mirror work decorate the walls, along with paintings by Kamal-ol-Molk. The light in the main hall is best before noon. Combine it with the Tabatabaei House and Agha Bozorg Mosque on foot. The UK Foreign Office currently advises against all travel to Iran and warns that British nationals risk detention, so check official guidance before making any plans.
