In the tree trunks.
The Bosque Tallado, the Carved Forest, is an open-air museum on the slopes of Cerro Piltriquitrón above El Bolsón, where artists from around the world have carved some sixty sculptures into the forest's tree trunks, making it one of the most visited spots in this part of the Andes. The carvings range from animals and faces to abstract forms woven into the woods. A winding gravel road climbs 13 kilometres from National Route 40 to a large car park, from which a trail climbs about forty minutes through the forest to the sculptures. Along the way, wide viewpoints look over the El Bolsón valley and the surrounding mountains, and above the forest a mountain hut awaits those who want to keep climbing. It opens daily from 09:00 to 18:00. The gravel road needs careful driving, and taxis run up from town.
