One of Koh Phangan's most secluded and beautiful beaches: a small bay on the north-east coast with soft white sand and clear, calm water, enclosed on three sides by forested hills, with no road for cars, so it has stayed quiet, with a handful of wooden resorts and simple restaurants on the sand. Visitors arrive by longtail boat from the coastal village of Chaloklum in about fifteen minutes, or on foot along a jungle trail taking one to two hours up and down, passing a viewpoint over the whole bay. Swimming is a pleasure in the calm water for most of the season, and the rocks at either end are good for snorkelling. The beach is free; boats from Chaloklum charge a negotiated fare and run less often in the evening, so find out when the last boat back leaves. The Gulf of Thailand's heaviest rains fall from October to December, unlike the Andaman coast. A note for families: Haad Rin beach in the south hosts the loud Full Moon Party every month, so avoid it on those nights and choose the quiet north. An ideal quiet day for families and couples; bring what you need, as services are limited.
