Bovbjerg is a lighthouse on the west coast of Jutland in Lemvig municipality, Denmark, on the edge of a cliff above the North Sea, about 50 km southwest of Thisted in a straight line. It was built in 1876–1877 and first lit on 30 December 1877. The tower is only 26 metres high, but its light sits 62 metres up because it stands on a high cliff; it still works with its original 1877 Fresnel lens, and in clear weather its light can be seen 29.5 km away. There are 93 steps to the viewing balcony. The round red tower and red keepers' houses stand on a wide green pasture that runs to the edge of a 40-metre clay cliff dropping to the sea. The scene is an unspoilt ice-age landscape, with green meadows stretching to the horizon. Visitors climb the 93 steps to the balcony for views over the meadows, cliff and sea, walk the cliff-top path and go down to the beach. It is usually windy, and sunset over the sea is a highlight.
