Brasília National Park, known locally as Água Mineral («Mineral Water»), was created on 29 November 1961 north-west of the capital and now covers about 424 km² of cerrado; it is described as the largest park within an urban area in the world. It is run by the Chico Mendes Institute. Its best-known feature is a pair of natural mineral-water pools, Areal and Pedreira, loved by Brasília residents for decades, along with walking trails in the cerrado. But both pools were closed as a precaution on 24 February 2026 to inspect their structures after heavy rain, and were still closed in May 2026 with no reopening date announced. Tickets were therefore halved to R$20, R$10 for residents of the Federal District and surroundings, free for children up to 12 and seniors, until all facilities return. Entry is daily from 6:00 to 16:00, with stays until 17:00. Check on the pools before you go.
