Brezovica is a mountain resort on the slopes of the Sharr Mountains in southern Kosovo and the country's largest winter sports centre. People come for skiing and snowboarding in winter, and for hiking and mountain biking in summer. The resort was set up in 1954, and the first of its five chairlifts was installed in 1979. It has about 16 km of slopes on the north-facing side of the mountains, within Sharr Mountains National Park. It served as a backup venue for downhill events at the 1984 Winter Olympics and hosted international races in the 1980s and 1990s. In winter you see wide white slopes between snow-covered pines, with lifts sometimes climbing above the clouds and a chain of Sharr peaks from the top. In summer and autumn the mountains turn green and gold, and trails lead from the resort to the mountain lake of Livadh. Prizren is about 24 km away in a straight line, and Ferizaj about 23 km. The lifts are old and may not all run, so check the state of the slopes before you go.
