A high hill in the mountains around Sungai Penuh, reached by a winding mountain road, giving the finest view of the whole Kerinci valley: the town, villages and green rice fields on the valley floor, Lake Kerinci shining to the south, the surrounding mountains and, on clear days, Mount Kerinci on the horizon. The summit has viewing platforms, seating and small cafés, the air is cool and fresh, and locals come at sunset and early in the morning when mist fills the valley below. Entry is a small fee of about ten thousand rupiah, and the drive up takes about half an hour from town. It is the best place to grasp the geography of the Kerinci valley before visiting the lake and estates, so start your tour here, or end it at sunset.
