Boracay's other face: a beach on the windward east coast whose sky fills in season with dozens of colourful kites and sails for kitesurfing and windsurfing. It is one of the best-known spots for these sports in Asia. From November to April the north-east wind blows steadily onto this coast, while White Beach in the west stays calm. A reef off the beach shelters a broad shallow lagoon, so the inner water is flat and good for learning, with waves beyond the reef for experts. Schools and rental centres on the beach teach beginners in short lessons with equipment. For those who do not ride, the scene itself is worth a seat in a café, watching the kites leap across the water. In summer this coast falls calm and White Beach becomes the windy side, so the water sports move. Bulabog's water is less clear than the west's because of wind and seaweed, so it is a place for action rather than swimming.
