Bulbjerg is a limestone cliff in northern Jutland facing the Skagerrak, in the Hanherred district near Thy. It is the only rock formation in Jutland and lies about 55 km in a straight line from Aalborg. It is also the only bird cliff on the Danish mainland and the mainland's only breeding place for black-legged kittiwakes. For centuries chalk blocks were cut from the cliff for building or burned for quicklime. About 100 metres offshore stood a rock pillar called Skarreklit, which fell in a storm in 1978; its base can still be seen at low tide in calm seas. The pale limestone mass rises above a pebble beach, capped with a green dome of grass. From the top a wide view sweeps over Jammer Bay, with its long sandy beach and grassy dunes, while white seabirds nest in hollows in the cliff. A boardwalk and steps lead to the top, and you can go down to the beach. Do not disturb the birds in the nesting season, and keep away from the foot of the cliff.
