Kaprun castle is the twelfth-century fort on the village knoll: walls and keep kept by loving local restoration — the rampart view joining green Kaprun valley to the Tauern's glacier wall behind. It is the quiet hour's monument between the valley's adventures: the wall walk, courtyard and keep, local-history panels — its true life its events: the summer medieval festivals of markets and knights, and fortress music nights turning it lit theatre. At five euros it is a family's fine interlude between gorge and summit — and its events, when they coincide, raise it grades.
