Cabo Dos Bahías is a nature reserve on the Chubut coast, about twenty-eight kilometres from the small fishing town of Camarones, protected since 1973 and part of the Patagonia Austral coastal marine park. Its shore is rocky, with small coves and shingle beaches under a huge sky. Its best-known residents are a colony of Magellanic penguins, which arrive in spring to dig their nests among the shrubs and rocks, and visitors walk among them on a wooden walkway about 470 metres long. There are also sea lions, fur seals and sometimes elephant seals, and on land herds of guanacos mingle with the penguins in a rare sight, along with maras, rheas and foxes. It opens daily 08:00-20:00 in the penguin season, about September to April; entry fees differ for provincial residents, Argentines and foreigners, paid at the gate in cash or at the Camarones tourist office.
