The Cachoeira da Fumacinha, «little smoke», drops about 100 metres into the bottom of a narrow canyon some 280 metres deep, the Cânion do Julião, in Ibicoara in the south of the Chapada Diamantina. It is one of the region's hardest hikes: about nine kilometres each way from Baixão, around four hours in and four out, over big boulders with six river crossings. Accidents have happened; it is not walked in rainy periods because of flash floods in the canyon, and a local guide is strongly advised.
