The Cachoeira da Velha is the largest waterfall in Jalapão: here the Rio Novo splits into two falls that curve together in a horseshoe in the middle of the Cerrado savanna. Viewing platforms look over the falls from above, and cars can drive right up to them, so they are easy for everyone to reach. The finest view, from the foot of the falls, can only be had on rafting trips on the river (about R$170). Close by is the Prainha do Rio Novo, a small river beach. Getting there means a detour of about 60 kilometres there and back from Mateiros. Entry is free but, like the park's other sights, visits go with a licensed guide, between 8:00 and 16:00.
