Cachoeira Encantada, the «Enchanted Falls», is a waterfall in Chapada Diamantina National Park, in the municipality of Itaetê in central Bahia. It drops in a series of falls stretching some 230 metres and is counted among the three most beautiful waterfalls in the whole Chapada Diamantina. The falls lie about thirty-two kilometres from the town centre, on the quieter south-eastern side of the Chapada, far from the crowds of Lençóis. Along the trail ancient rock inscriptions left by the area's first inhabitants appear, so the walk combines nature and archaeology. Access is difficult: the hike starts from a place known as «Baixão» and crosses rivers and many obstacles, making it a full-day adventure for fit walkers that needs a local guide who knows the way and the water levels. Avoid rainy days and carry enough water and food.
