From the Chapada.
The Véu de Noiva, the «Bridal Veil», also called the Livramento falls or the Rio Brumado falls, lies on the Brumado River in Livramento de Nossa Senhora, Bahia, at the foot of the Chapada Diamantina, about five kilometres from the town centre. It is eighty metres high and drops in four successive leaps from the top of the Chapada towards the plain. In January 1880 the engineer Teodoro Sampaio passed by and wrote that he paused to admire the «towering cascade» the river makes as it descends from the Chapada, putting its height at the time at about two hundred metres. The falls can be seen from the road that climbs the mountain towards Rio de Contas, making a good stop on the drive between the two towns, or a longer outing to its base. It is best visited after the rainy season, when the flow is at its peak; take care on slippery rock.
