Serra de Caldas Novas State Park, 5 km from central Caldas Novas and 174 km from Goiânia, was created on 25 September 1970 to protect a broad cerrado (Brazilian savanna) plateau of 12,315 hectares. It matters more than its looks suggest: the plateau recharges the aquifers that feed the region's famous hot springs. The plateau rises to about 1,000 metres above surrounding land at 600, its sides forming natural walls, which is why it is also called the Caldas Structural Dome. Two trails are open: the Cascatinha trail, about 700 metres, to a four-metre waterfall and natural pool in around half an hour, and the Paredão (Wall) trail of just over a kilometre. Visits are currently free, with entry daily from 6:00 to 16:00 and stays until 18:00. In September 2026 a tender was issued to hand the park to private management for 35 years, so fees of up to R$60 may come later.
