Caminhos de Pedra, the «Stone Paths», is a historic road and tourist route in the São Pedro district of Bento Gonçalves, Rio Grande do Sul, one of the first areas of European immigration in the state. It was conceived by Júlio Posenato and Tarcísio Michelon. The route draws visitors with its old houses, many of stone, built by the first Italian immigrants. Highlights include the stone Casa Righesso of 1889, the wooden Casa Vanni of 1935 and the stone Casa Strapazzon from around 1878, one of the oldest on the route, used as a set for the film «O Quatrilho». The route opened in 1992, receives about sixty thousand tourists a year, and was one of the first rural tourism routes in Brazil and a model for many others, aiming to revive local history and traditions and conserve the buildings. In 2009 it was declared historic and cultural heritage of the state. Along the way there are restaurants and small museums.
