Campeche Island lies about 1.6 km off Campeche beach on the east side of Florianópolis: 1.6 km long and 500 metres wide, with a single beach of white sand and clear water on its western side. Declared a Natural Monument in 2025, it is also known for an exceptional archaeological heritage dating from 5000 to 3500 BC. Only authorised boats land here, from Campeche, Barra da Lagoa and Armação beaches, and booking ahead is compulsory because landings are capped each day (about 770 to 800 people depending on the season). The archaeological trails can only be walked with a guide, for a fee of about R$20 to R$30. Boat prices in the 2026 summer ran from about R$200 to R$350 per person, and camping, barbecues, fires and fireworks are banned.
